Fall Festivals You Don't Want To Miss

Planning some time away before the holiday season? Vernon, New Jersey hosts a run of fall festivals from September through November. When the leaves change, northern New Jersey is worth the drive.

Oktoberfest at Mountain Creek Resort

September 22 and 23. Over 100 kinds of beer, cider, and festive drinks, plus authentic German food: potato pancakes, Wiener Schnitzel, Jagerschnitzel, and Sauerbraten. Family-friendly activities include a hay-bale toss, stein-holding contest, and sack races.

Great Pumpkin Festival at Heaven Hill Farm

September 14 to November 3. One of the area's largest fall festivals, with a corn maze, carnival rides, pick-your-own pumpkins, pony rides, a glass beehive, and pig racing. A hay wagon takes you out to the pumpkin patch, and the farm animals are always a hit with kids.

Vetrnaetr WinterNights Festival

Sunday, October 20. A one-day event honoring the tastes, sounds, and legends of the Vikings and early Norse culture. Hosted by the local Vernon Nordic House restaurant and bakery, it draws families and history enthusiasts from across the region.
